de Nazareth, EJ :: Four Brazilian Rags
Alry Publications presents Ernesto Julio de Nazareth's 'Four Brazilian Rags' arranged for piccolo and piano by Mary Ann and Frank Archer.
Performance notes by Mary Ann Archer: The impetus to arrange these four pieces by Ernesto Julio de Nazareth (1853-1934) came while I was listening to a wonderful pianist perform them in recital. A friend and colleague sitting next to me whispered after the 'Apanhei-te', 'Wouldn't that sounds great on piccolo?' I agreed, and right after the recital I ordered copies of all four of the rags performed that afternoon. Over the next few years, I made transcriptions of these delightful pieces, with my husband adapting the piano parts, and we started incorporating them into our recitals. I think these works show off both sides of the piccolo's possibilities - the brilliant and the plaintive.
