de Vienne, B :: Ubuhuha
Ubuhuha
de Vienne, B
Bernard de Vienne presents Ubuhuha for flute alone.
Ubuhuha, or literally ‘blow’ in Kirundi (the national language of Burundi), is a marker for a particular technique used by women during vigils - she uses her lips as reeds to vibrate the column of air form by pressing two hands against the mouth. This work integrates that particular type of sound against other traditional sounds of India, Rajahstan, and Turkey, as well as the contemporary sounds of Varese, Jolivet, or Berio.
Full of the sound of free improvisation, of joyful and tender character, of fantasy, Ubuhuha’s multiple patterns fall together and apart in turns to create a unique soundworld.
Duration: 8'. For the advanced player.
