ALRY Publications presents 'Songs Without Words' for flute and harp by Louis Anthony deLise.
The composer writes about this piece, "My set of Songs Without Words are, in a very general way, composed in the style of the songs of the 'Great American Songbook.' Those are the songs made popular in America and elsewhere during the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. While I do not adhere strictly to the formal structure of America’s famous pop songs, I do use the pop song forms, harmonic and melodic language as my starting points. The movements are unabashedly romantic, recalling the ballads of the genre, but also employ polychordal, quartal, and extended harmonies."
