Delius, F :: To Be Sung of a Summer Night
Delius, F
A pair of sublime pieces, 'To be sung of a summer night on the water' were originally unaccompanied part-songs written for wordless chorus in the late spring of 1917. They were also later rearranged to form 2 Aquarelles for String Orchestra.
Being written for voices, they translate wonderfully for flutes. In the first movement the serene melody meanders through the lush chromatic texture, while the second is slightly more lively, featuring a jaunty folk tune.
