Though Lawrence Dillon is better known for his exquisite string quartets - with his six quartets receiving some of the highest praise and popularity available to contemporary players - his other music is just as carefully crafted.
Dunigan Variations, for four flutes (three doubling concert flute and piccolo, the fourth tripling flute, piccolo, and alto flute), takes a form typical of Dillon's string quartet construction: an Introduction followed by several small, interconnected sections (here, variations), and concluding with a delicate coda synthesis.
