Ivan Fedele presents Donax (1992) for flute alone.

Donax is the first solo flute piece by Fedele, and the title, which uses the Greek term sometimes referring to Pan's flute, is indicative of the intensity of the homage rendered. As usual, the composer does not intend to escape the cultural connotations inherent in the instrument. He conceives, instead, a backward course which, beginning from the contemporary flute - the writing becoming highly virtuosic - goes back to the most intimate traditional archetype of the reed flute. This conceptual orientation does not exclude the usual syntactic organization based on psychoacoustic principles of perceptibility, an organization that foresees a dialectical relationship between primary and secondary materials, punctuation marks and a spatial arrangement of materials allowing a gradual shift of plans. Donax is a piece of great instrumental, formal and linguistic complexity.
