Doppler, F :: Concert-Paraphrase
Concert-Paraphrase
Doppler, F
Franz Doppler was a phenomenal flutist and composer of opera. His composition, Concert-Paraphrase op. 18 on motives from Schubert's Opera The Conspirators or The Domestic War D.787 for two flutes and piano shows both his of love opera and for Schubert! Perhaps one of Schubert’s lesser known operas at the time, Doppler, however was compelled to share melodies of this opera with flutists. Eight minutes in length, the piano opens with a delightful flowing melody in A major, which the two flutes soon take over. The simplicity of the melody soon is replaced by technical variations on the original theme. In typical encore style, the accompanying piano supports the texture of the flutes lightly, allowing both flutes to dance about uninhibitedly, and robust with fanfare, as the flutes are resting. There is a lengthy cadenza for both flutes right before a fortissimo ending with piano. Lovers of opera will certainly take delight in this brilliant work for two flutes and piano.
