Dufeutrelle, S :: L'ombre du blanc
ALRY Publications presents 'L'ombre du blanc' for piccolo, flute, and piano by composer Sophie Dufeutrelle.
This piece was first composed in August 2007, at the request of the 1st Concours International de Nice-Maxence Larrieu. For this edition, it was revised by the composer in 2025-26 for piccolo, flute, and piano, receiving it's premiere at the 40th anniversary of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Flöte in Munich in November 2025.
The discourse is varied and syncopated, with a supple, jazzy theme. In the passage 'Immobile,' imagination and visualization of color are required in using the permanent thread of sound supplied by the 'Si,' surrounding this section with resonance and bathing it in sonority. It is from this passage that the piece takes its title. The 'Si' is the White (le blanc) of the title. the flute and the piano dialogue around it, weaving shadows and colors. The end of the piece is lively with brio.
