From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, Anton Dvorak’s Sonatina in G major for violin and piano was written during Dvorak's three-year American stay, while he was director of the National Conservatory of Music in NYC. It was composed in 1893 along with the American String Quartet Op 96, while Dvorak was in a Czech colony in Spillville Iowa. Written for his children and kept simple for them to play, Dvorak did indeed hope that adults would like it too. -Chris Darwin
