Feldman, M :: Trio
In 1972, when Morton Feldman lived in Berlin, he wrote a composition for three flutes intended as a part of a dance piece. For want of suitable musicians, no performance was staged at the time. The premiere thus did not take place until 17 years later, in 1989.
The Trio for three flutes is one of Feldman's unusually short compositions, at only four and a half minutes. However, the slowly shifting tones and distinct timbral ideas are all distinctly Feldman.
