Sock Monkeys: Three canonic pieces
Fennelly, B

Brian Fennelly's Sock Monkeys, for two flutes, began life as Miniatures, a clarinet duet written for Meyer Kupferman. Now considerably rewritten, elaborated, and transposed, these lighthearted pieces are also studies in canon: the first with delay by full phrase, the second with an inversion played against the original as Flute 2 takes up the Flute 1 line, and the third at close time interval. The only break in strict canonic writing occurs in the midsection of 3: The Race, as the players 'take a break.' The title refers to stuffed toy animals made from socks, as well as to the 'canonic' imitative activities for which monkeys are known ('monkey see, monkey do').

For advanced players. Includes two scores.
