Smit, L :: Flute of Wonder
Leo Smit's Flute of Wonder, for flute and piano, is a free-floating fantasia in three movements in Smit's distinctly open harmonic language.
Movement I: The flute leads freely and dramatically; the piano accompanies until the end, when it imitates the flute.
Movement II: The piano plays even, steady eighths, while the flute moves quite freely within the aligned phrases.
Movement III: The playing of the opening is a model for the entire piece. The performers need no worry about an exact alignment, but should dash on freely to the cut-off. The sforzando chords, however, should be attacked together!
