ALRY Publications presents 'Musical Vistas' for flute and guitar by Cynthia Folio.
The composer writes about this piece, "As I think back on my own musical vistas, I recall that my passion for music began in the 5th grade, when my father was stationed in Panama. Thus began my interest in jazz and Latin-American music.
"The titles for the three movements reflect my attempt to look back at music from other cultures and my experience in performing with several improvisatory groups. 'Sephardic Scene' reflects my experience playing in David's Harp, which performed various styles of music from the Middle East. I also performed for several years in Latin Fiesta, playing music from many countries, including Brazil, which explains the titles and moods of the second and third movements. 'Saudade do Passado' ('longing for the past') is a sentimental look at my experience as a musician. 'Choro Brilhante' ('virtuosic choro') is based on the Brazilian choro rhythm and style.'
