Sept Impromptus [Seven Impromptus]
Francaix, J

Jean Francaix's 'Seven Impromptus' for flute and bassoon was composed in 1977 and is an advanced duet with around a seventeen minute duration. This work was commissioned by the Ensembles Soni Ventorum, and was premiered on October 12, 1978 in Seattle, WA.

A twentieth century French composer, Francaix was natrually gifted in music and began writing when he was only six years old. He published his first work at the age of ten which caught the attention of renowned composer and teacher, Nadia Boulanger whom considered Francaix to be one of her best pupils. Francaix was a skilled orchestrator which was reflected in his use of interesting timbres and tone colors which is evident in this beautiful flute concerto.
