Gaubert, P :: Nocturne and Allegro Scherzando
Nocturne and Allegro Scherzando
Gaubert, P
Philippe Gaubert's famous Nocturne and Allegro Scherzando for flute and piano, presented by the International Music Company.
'Philippe Gaubert was a French composer and flutist. Many flutists are very familiar with the name Gaubert alongside his teacher, Paul Taffanel, as these two men were prominent professors at the Paris Conservatory. Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando was published in 1906. The piece begins with a beautiful melody after a short piano introduction in the low register of the flute. The Nocturne is filled with lush lyrical passages, showing off the color and tone capabilities of the soloist. The second half is heavily rhythmic and animated. Nearing the end of the piece, there is a beautiful, final return of the lyrical first theme, carrying the piece to an exciting finale.'
