Genzmer, H :: Sonate fis-Moll [Sonata in F sharp minor]

Harald Genzmer's Sonate fis-Moll [Sonata in F sharp minor] for Two Flutes is a duet for intermediate to advanced level flutists. A student of Paul Hindemith, Harald Genzmer (b. 1909) is a prolific composer of music in all standard musical genres, whose style is very much in the practical vein of his great teacher. Like Hindemith, he has tried to create useful music for all varieties of instrumental combinations.

A German melodist of the 20th century, Genzmer writes rewardingly and is well worth discovering. Genzmer's music is that of a real composer who did in fact use dissonance when it suited his expressive need. In general, however, he was an adherent of the melodic tradition often written in a world embittered or dismissive of that tradition.
