This arrangement of Walter Gieseking's Sonatine was inspired by a friendship between the arranger, Jayne Traynor Rose, and the son of Lambros Callimahos, the man who played the American premiere of the work at Carnegie Hall, with Gieseking at the piano. The work consists of three movements (Moderato, Allegretto, Vivace) and is arranged for a solo flutist accompanied by flute choir.
Instrumentation: Solo flute, piccolo, 4 c flutes, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute.
