Anthony Girard's Printemps des Rivieres for four flutes - Rivers of Spring - marks the best of Ravel's impressionism suffused with Girard's personal idosyncracies. The piece opens with hovering 7ths and gentle arpeggiation, drifting into Girard's spring dreamscape with gently virtuosic movement, thickly harmonic textures, and impressionist melodic ideas. Great fun but requires great delicacy.
