This collection - Gottschalk's Two Pieces, Volume II - contains the Souvenir de Cuba and the Grande Tarantelle, arranged by Michael Webster for flute, clarinet in Bb or A, and piano.
Souvenir de Cuba opens and closes with tropical languor, but is actually a mazurka with remarkable similarities to Chopin's Op. 6 No. 1. The introduction in particular features Chopinesque chromaticism, creating tasty and tasteful dissonance.
Grand Tarantelle is probably Gottschalk's most famous work, with versions for many different instruments. This arrangement departs from Gottschalk's literal A-B-A-coda structure by varying the return of the A theme with considerable re-instrumentation, including a lengthy canon. During the coda, the flute and clarinet have arpeggiated filigree, in the spirit of Gottschalk's 'no holds barred' virtuosity.

Sheet music, instrument purchases, and Special Order Only (SOO) merchandise are non-returnable.
For other non-instrument merchandise, request return authorization or make an in-person return within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. Items must be unused, undamaged, in their original packaging with all contents, and accompanied by the original receipt or invoice. Electronic media must be unopened.
Shipped returns require prior authorization. Return Authorizations (RAs) are valid for 10 calendar days from issue. The RA number must appear on the package, and the return must arrive within that period.
Defective merchandise may be exchanged for an identical item if requested within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. After that period, contact the manufacturer. Please contact us promptly about fulfillment errors.
