Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (op. 46) | Suite No. 2 (op.55)
Grieg, E
From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, Edvard Grieg’s ‘Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 op. 46 and No. 2 op. 55’ is a favorite orchestral work of many. Transcribed beautifully for flute and piano, Pierre Paubon’s arrangement is an excellent choice for concerts and ceremonies. Grieg requires sheer brilliance through technical facility, stunning long phrases, as well as requires an overall sense of maturity throughout the virtuosic passages. The first suite lasts approximately nine minutes in length and can be played separately from the second suite, which is approximately eleven minutes. It is recommended to study the orchestral score along with practicing this arrangement, noting similarities and differences between both scores. Paubon’s arrangement is certain to be a favorite in flutist’s libraries. Edvard Grieg was a prolific 19th century Norwegian composer and pianist.
