Haag, H :: Vent (e)au feu
Hanno Haag's Vent (e)au feu - Trio for Flute, Violin and Piano, op. 59 was completed in the summer 1999.
Vent (e)au feu is a word game. On the one hand it refers to the star signs of the performers - vent (wind, air), eau (water), and feu (fire). However, it also has the meaning which results when the letter 'e' is left out of 'eau'. This cannot be heard when the title is spoken. The translation of the title can then mean 'Wind of Fire', referring to the character of the work and its interpretation.
In a single large movement, Vent (e)au feu pairs numerous mixed meters, complex rhythms, and unusual sounds with more traditional, thickly neo-romantic and jazz harmonies and ideas to create a unique, flexible concertwork that showcases each instrument in appealing - though atypical - ways.
For advanced players.
