This inspiring 4½-minute solo by composer Adolphus Hailstork has drama, beauty, idiomatic flashiness, and an opening theme in minor that comes back in a triumphant major key. The composer has written, 'FLIGHT begins slowly, then suddenly takes off like a bird on its maiden voyage leaping from a cliff. After a torrid swing through the sky, the young bird lands gently.'
Flight is within reach of dedicated students, and very effective for professional recitals.
