Handel, GF :: Eleven Sonatas for Flute and Basso Continuo
Eleven Sonatas for Flute and Basso Continuo
Handel, GF
The contents of this volume are the six sonatas for flute (HWV359b, 363b, 367b, 374-376) and the four for recorder (HWV 360, 362, 365, 369) with basso continuo accompaniment, which were published under Handel s name in his life. Also included is a flute sonata (HWV 379) which first appeared in print in 1879. This definitive Halle Handel Edition draws on all available sources, incorporating the many original publications against later and pirated versions across the centuries, to produce a definitive historical reading. In addition to the realized keyboard part with figured bass notation, the flute part also includes the unrealized continuo part.
Barenreiter provides the Eleven Handel Sonatas in this special linen-bound edition, part of the Halle Handel Edition, Series IV, Volume 3, with reliable musical text based on all available sources, information on the genesis and history of the work, valuables notes on performance practice, and a critical commentary explaining all source discrepancies and editorial decisions.
