Barbara Heller presents the collection Music for Solo Flute, with five pieces that can be played together or apart.
From the composer:
'In 1992 I received my first commission for the Musica-Rara Festival in Erfurt to compose a work for solo flute on the theme of 'blooming'. I composed 'bluhen 415' by setting twenty-four letters of our alphabet equal to twenty-four musical tones. Using various definitions of the word 'blooming', I was able to gather a lot of tone material. A year later, inspired by the playing of the flautist Catharina Yung, I conceived the idea for a kind of musical short story 'Auf dr Suche nach dem Fruhling.'
The study Religioso was written for Catharina Yung. Enthusiastic about the sound of the flute, I went on to compose the studies Heimatlos (experimenting with major and minor tonalities) and Fruhlingsruf (a study in agogics). Maitraum was notated on May 26, 1993 after I clearly dreamed the music the night before.'
