Hoffman, SM :: Prelude and Fughetta
Hoffman, SM
As is the case with a good number of my recent tonal instrumental works, this piece for flute and organ deals with a friendly tug-of-war between diatonic and chromatic music. The theme one hears in both the Prelude and the Fughetta is based on letters from the name of the flute player who commissioned this work, Peter Sheridan. The Fughetta is far from strict in terms of fugal rules. It is more of an imitative fantasia than anything else.
