The arranger writes about this piece, ''We Three Kings of Orient Are' is a cheerful, entertaining arrangement. Although the tempo is marked 'Moderately,' I would tend to pay it on the brisk side with a lighthearted feel. There are sections throughout the work when some of the flutes play a back beat rhythm on the second count of the measure. This helps keep motion in the music and adds a little interest. It is important to be rhythmically accurate when encountering these sections. There is a recurring, pleasing countermelody that is heard throughout the work. It can become almost haunting. Keep it flowing and lyrical. I wrote this arrangement of one of my favorite Christmas carols to convey a joyful holiday feeling. I am sure it will bring a smile to your face and set you in the spirit of the season. Enjoy!!!'
