The present facsimile of Jacques Hotteterre's Premier Livre de Pieces pour la Flute-traversiere, et autres Instruments, Avec la Basse, is based on the nouvelle (i.e., second) edition, which contains new matter (including ornamentation and additional pieces) not present in the first. The nouvelle edition is truly a new edition in bibliographical terms, being newly engraved (the first edition, Paris, 1708, was printed from movable type). Presumably this nouvelle edition represents the composer's latest intentions.
This facsimile is based on a copy in a private collection.
