This low flute version of the famous Welsh hymn (often heard at Rugby matches) borrows from the Male Voice choir tradition that is synonymous with the country. After a lyrical introduction the hymn is presented simply, with the flutes producing a smooth, sotto voce blend of sound similar to that of quiet male voices. This moves into a more rousing, expressive section, and the closing phrases echo again the peaceful opening.
