Toshi Ichiyanagi's In A Living Memory for solo flute was composed in 2000. Born in 1933, Ichiyanagi is a Japanese composer and pianist born in Kobe. He studied with Tomojiro Ikenouchi, Kishio Hirao, and John Cage. This work for flute alone is contemporary and utilizes extended techniques such as pitch bends, multiphonics, and flutter tonguing. This solo is considered to be for the advanced flutist and should be considered by players at the collegiate or professional level of playing.
