Yngve Jan Trede's Divertimento, for flute and viola, is in a suite form of six movements. The first Fantasia is a quasi-improvised pastoral introduction. The following three relatively short movements - Grotesque, Scherzo, and Burlesque - are all played in rapid succession, without intermission between. In the fifth movement, Elegia, harmonic color is explored, and the final contrapuntal, dance-like Gigue closes the piece.
