Janacek, L :: Marsch der Blaukehlchen [March of the Bluebreasts]

Edition Peters presents 'Marsch der Blaukehlchen [March of the Bluebirds]' for piccolo and piano by Leos Janacek. 

As the Slavic and Prague public began to show considerable interest in Janacek before his 70th birthday, Janacek felt obliged to compile some autobiographical data for publication - in particular the years of his apprenticeship in the Augustinian monastery in Old Brno and the Prussian troops marching into Brno in 1866. These recollections immediately precipitated some musical sketches which he soon used in two works composed shortly after one another. These works are this present piece, March of the Bluebirds [Pochod Modracku or Marsch der Blaukehlchen], and the wind sextet Mladi [Youth], the third movement of which contains the material of the March developed further.
