Karg-Elert, S :: Trio in D Minor
Trio in D Minor
Karg-Elert, S
This trio was written in 1902, and clearly pays homage to the French suites of Bach. The Introduction is flowing, with rich chromatic harmonies. The Double Fugue is an extremely clever contrapuntal piece using just three melodic lines. This is followed by a flowing and ornate Sarabande, before a witty Rigaudon and Musette brings the work to a sparkling close. This arrangement needs neat work from all players. All parts share equally in the melodic material, and while none go particularly high (top F/G), there are some tricky florid passages and unusual time signatures that will require coordination.
