Yuri Kornakov is one of the acknowledged masters and leading Petersburgian composers, pianists, and pedagogues, with works in numerous musical genres - the symphonic, the chamber-instrumental, the choral, and the vocal. His piano compositions and the music for children have especially enjoyed great popularity, as have his sonatas and concertos for winds - flute, oboe, bassoon, and clarinet.
The Fantasy-polonaise was written for an unusual composition: a quartet of flutes and piano with optional percussion - and is dedicated to the honored artist of Russia, professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory Gleb Nikitin.
