Ernst Krenek presents Flotenstuck, neunphasig (Flute Piece, in nine phases), op. 171, for flute and piano.
In the late 1950s Krenek turned towards serialism and the deep-rooted mathematical precision within. The Flute Piece is an expression of his explorations within serial writing, paired with extremely virtuosic playing and numerous avant-garde techniques. A vivid, vital work, the Piece is one of the most effective expressions of virtuosic serialism within the flute and piano repertoire.
