Friedrich Kuhlau s Introduction and Variations on a Theme from Weber s Euryanthe , for flute and piano, was first published in 1825, now revived through further research by Barenreiter Verlag. This contemporary counterpart to Franz Schubert s Introduction and Variations on Trockne Blumen , composed one year earlier in 1824, is only heard in its true early romantic beauty when it is played in the spirit and style of its time - warmly and genially, with elegance and verve.
