Trois Fantaisies op. 38 [Three Fantasies op. 38]

Kuhlau, F

From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot and edited by Phillippe Bernold, Friedrich Kuhlau’s ‘3 Fantasies’ for solo flute op. 38 is a stunning set of virtuosic pieces. Bernold states,

"Commissioned by the famous German publisher Carl Peters, the 3 fantaisies for solo flute opus 38, were composed in 1821 in Vienna. Each Fantasia ends with a ‘theme and variation’ movement. Number 1 is based on Zerlina’s aria: Batti, batti, o bel Masetto from Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Act I). Number III is a variation on Don Giovanni’s mandolin aria (from the same opera, Act II): Deh vieni alla finestra. Number II is based on a canzonetta by Francesco Bianchi."

The present addition follows the original version. Suggested articulations and nuances are given between brackets. All articulations and instructions logically derived from the composer’s intentions have been added without brackets.
