Trio Originale op. 75 [Original Trio op. 75]

"Kaspar (Gaspard) Kummer (December 10, 1795 - May 21 1870) was one of Germany's most celebrated flautists in the 19th century. He played an old-system flute with small toneholes, like the instruments in use prior to Boehm. Although few reports have survived, Kummer seems to have given frequent solo performances. In 1835 he acquired a position in the Duke of Saxe Coburg-Gotha's orchestra, of which he became the musical director shortly afterwards, according to A. Goldberg.

Nowadays Kummer is known as the composer of a few works for flute and orchestra, a number of trios and quartets for and with flute and some books of studies, and as the author of an Anweisung zum Flotenspiel, op. 106, and a Practische Flotenschule, op. 119. R.S. Rockstro wrote of him in glowing terms in A Treatise on the Flute (1890): 'I know of no composer of music for the flute, whose works are of such uniform excellence as those of Kaspar Kummer.'" - Trevor Wye
