Laszlo Lajtha s Two Pieces for Flute Alone are lighter versions of the heavy, virtuosic writing Lajtha is known for (in his Sonate en Concerto for flute and piano, for example). The first piece, the Melancolique, alternates between a moto perpetuo in e minor and freeform, flowing fantasy. The second piece, the Vif et Gracieux, is almost pseudo-Classical, with hints of Lajtha s French modernism sneaking in here and there to pull apart the more formal writing.
