Lindberg, C :: The World of Montuagretta
Christian Lindberg's flute concerto The World of Montuagretta, here presented in its reduction for flute (alternating with alto flute) and piano, is one of the major works of the 21st century. Commissioned for Sharon Bezaly, the piece is extremely idiomatic while exploiting the full technical and lyrical capacities of the flute.
In five movements, Montuagretta spans hugely virtuosic moments of extreme showmanship, delicate balances of texture and melody, and two cadenzas - one miniature, one enormous - all while remaining engaging, hugely beautiful and accessible, and above all, colorful. Brazilian folk rhythms and Nordic harmonies wend together to create one of the most engaging examples of modern flute repertoire.
