From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet’s ‘Sonata in A minor’ is from a set of 12 sonatas, 6 for recorder and 6 for transverse flute, that all have a thorough bass accompaniment. In four movements, Adagio, Allegro, Adagio and Gigue, this sonata is in exquisite Baroque style. Jean John Baptiste Loeillet, not to be confused with his cousin Jean Baptiste Loeillet, was born in Gant, Belgium and moved to London in 1705, where he spent the majority of his life. Loeillet was a highly respected harpsichordist and teacher throughout his life, in addition to being a composer.
