The composer writes about this piece, "Clusters and Flusters" is an original composition unlike any I have written in the past. This work can be used as an introduction to contemporary music without sounding too modern or progressive. Even though many chords are small dissonant clusters scattered throughout the work, there are a number of melodic sections. One will notice several short themes that reoccur several times.
The composition may seem to have some wrong or questionable notes. It does not. After playing the work a couple of times, those notes will begin to sound right. The tempo must be kept moving at a fast pace and always played in cut time. The articulations play an important part in creating the intended effect of the music. Hopefully, one will find "Clusters and Flusters" enjoyable and fun to play and perform. Writing this was a unique experience for me. Have fun and don't get flustered by the clusters.
