Ricky Lombardo’s Tango Time is an original composition written in the expandable form that features a solo flutist with flute choir accompaniment. There is an opportunity for improvising if desired from measures 90-105. There is a written solo if the soloist is not comfortable improvising. Light in nature, Tango Time will captivate your audience and musicians. The melodies in Tango Time are poignant and rhythmical, which is characteristic of the tango. Your audience will leave your performance singing the memorable melodic lines.

Since this is written in the expandable form, the composition works great using the top four parts with the soloist on part one and three other flutists playing the second, third and fourth parts. As other flutes are added the composition is enhanced. With the exception of the soloist, the accompanying parts can be learned and have performance ready in a short amount of time. As an added feature, optional string bass and percussion parts are included.

The concept of the expandable form gives a great deal of versatility in any flute choir situation. This arrangement works successfully using a quartet of C flutes on the first four parts. As instruments are added they are used to expand the harmonic support, reinforce a line of another part and/or introduce new counter melodies. The integrity of the arrangement is never compromised. It is only enhanced. The expandable flute choir arrangement has been widely embraced by flute choirs worldwide.
