Luzuriaga, D :: La Muchica
Luzuriaga, D
Editions Henry Lemoine presents Diego Luzuriaga's 'La Muchica' - Five Pieces for Flute and Piano.
Preface by the composer: 'In Loja (a small town in Ecuador where I was born) we call 'muchica' a round grinstone usedfor crushing - against a larger, flat stone - things like salt, dry meat, spices, etc. It produces a strange, percussive, mineral sound, which I always related to stories of ghosts and apparitions. For a while the repetitive sounds [of] the 'muchica' haunted the nights of my childhood. In this piece I recreate (exorcise?) this one and other images from my early days in Loja.'
