Magalif, E :: Melodies of the Open Road
ALRY Publications presents "Melodies of the Open Road: Variations on Three Roma Melodies" by Eugene Magalif.
The composer writes about this piece, "I created the variations 'Melodies of the Open Road' at the suggestion of my German friend, Professor Ulrich Doppler. He is a direct descendant of the famous Austro-Hungarian flutists and musical figures of the 19th century, the Doppler brothers. Many of the Dopplers' works clearly show a connection with Hungarian music, which in turn has always been influenced by Gypsy music. Professor Ulrich Doppler wanted my piece to echo the Dopplers' pieces, to use a similar style of musical writing. Since the Doppler brothers often composed and played duets, I also wrote a duet fro two flutes: one version with piano, the other with the String Orchestra."
