The composer writes about this piece, ''Promenade' grew out of piano exercises I wrote to develop my grandchildren's ability to play light jazz and easy improvisation. Later I expanded it and created versions for flute and piano as well as flute and jazz trio. Despite the fact that the notes have been published, I do not insist on their exact execution. Performers can add some of their own improvisational finds and even swap sections of the piece at their discretion.'
