Bohuslav Martinu presents the Promenades, for flute, violin, and piano (or harpsichord - Martinu particularly enjoyed the modern sounds he could create on an older instrument) in a Barenreiter edition.
'The Promenades begin innocently enough with a Bachian allegro and aria, both spiced with mildly piquant dissonances and violin glissandos. The instrumentation is the same as the preceding work, except that the piano has been replaced by a clattering harpsichord. Following the gentle aria, there is an abrupt change of mood. Suddenly, we enter a bizarre, nightmarish world. This music was, after all, written in 1939 while the composer was living in Paris. The scherzo is a brief (under two minutes), but spooky danse macabre, while the finale is bitter and edgy a mad moto perpetuo propelled by the relentless twanging of the harpsichord. The conclusion anticipates the sound world of Philip Glass; fortunately this 'minimalist' passage is brief [...] precisely the strident tone that Martinu intended.'

For other non-instrument merchandise, request return authorization or make an in-person return within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. Items must be unused, undamaged, in their original packaging with all contents, and accompanied by the original receipt or invoice. Electronic media must be unopened.
Shipped returns require prior authorization. Return Authorizations (RAs) are valid for 10 calendar days from issue. The RA number must appear on the package, and the return must arrive within that period.
Defective merchandise may be exchanged for an identical item if requested within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. After that period, contact the manufacturer. Please contact us promptly about fulfillment errors.
