Jan Masseus presents the Fantasie for alto flute and piano.
Full of rich textures, quasi-jazz harmonies, and huge phrases, the Fantasie is a tour-de-force for the alto flute. Beginning with a drifting in 5/4, the alto and piano quickly develop into a full-fledged introduction on the lines of a jazz-influenced Korngold. The introductory material then alternates with an intriguingly colorful Scherzando and miniature cadenza-moments to end on a lush tranquillo.
