Ricardo Matosinhos's Traveling, for flute and alto flute duet, brushes through four distinct colorscapes across 9 minutes. The first movement, 'A long time ago', uses quick series of harmonics as a textural backdrop against flowing melodic fragments. The second, 'Tritonus Dance', pairs staccato dance-fragments in 5/4 against a simpler waltz. The third, 'Spain', is a luscious expression of tone color and the sound of flute tones sliding against each other in dark, gorgeous release. The final movement, 'On the other side of the pond', is a playful coda in 4/4.
