McLoskey, L
Lansing McLoskey's Hardwood, for woodwind quintet, is the winner of a collaborative competition between several of the large wind associations in the US, including the National Flute Association.
Hardwood is a personal, musical refraction by the composer of his weeks spent in New Hampshire, surrounded by hardwood forests.
At the center of the piece are three movements forming a set of variations. However, unlike a traditional 'theme and variation' scheme, these three movements are distinct-but-related variations of each other, in the way that different species of trees are not variations of one 'original tree', but share similar traits and forms with distinct individual characteristics.
This quintet is for advanced players and contains both the score and parts.
