Art of Sound Music presents 'Heavier Metal' for flute choir by composer John McMurtery.
'Heavier Metal' is an homage to Edgard Varese and his landmark composition for flute, Density 21.5. Varese's work is a celebration of the platinum flute's distinct tonal characteristics, including extreme dynamic range and depth of tonal color. 'Heavier Metal' was composed for a different kind of platinum celebration: the twentieth annual New Jersey Flute Choir Day. While much of Density's formal architecture is retained, the addition of nine additional flutes of varying sizes make possible the extension of range, texture, and layering effects.
